An Old Saying

"Red sky at night sailors delight, red sky in morning sailor take warning."
It's weather thing. Basically it's gonna rain if you see red sky in the morning. That's when I took this photograph. About 5 am this morning I shot this out of my bedroom window. Sure enough it's raining which is why I'm inside blogging instead of outside riding my bicycle. Actually I don't think I've ever actually seen morning red sky before, usually I'm not up that early. Anyhow, I just liked all the colors and contrast.

Free Models, Yeah

So as you may have read I work a post production house in Manhattan. Part of my job is going to shoots and helping Johnny (my boss/the director.) While I'm at these shoot I get to shoot still photography with the companies Nikon D90. What I try to do with these photos is show what goes into making the commercials. All the lights, green screens, c stands, cameras, etc. Yesterday I was at one of these shoots. It just so happens the talent (actors) were beautiful women in a pool. I saw this as an opportunity to shoot with a model. Here are a few of my favorites of the shoot. As you can see even when shooting beautiful women I like to incorporate the equiptment that goes into making these commercials possible.

Johnny Semerad

So this guys my boss. Apparently the good pictures our company have of him he has long hair. A magazine has written an article about him and he needs a new shot. I got this shot while he was working on Flame, with clients in his office (notice the apple logo in the background.) He's really in his element. He absolutely refused to look at the camera. So it had to be a profile. Part of my assignment was to get it looking really nice in Photoshop. So I gave it a vignette look and really made the colors "pop". This is what I came up with.Best part about this is, it's going to be in print. So if anybody reads Shoot Magazine keep and eye out for this shot.

Update: This photo is in the June 19th issue of Shoot Magazine. It's official I have a photo printed in a magazine.

Abraham Album Art

5 False Alarms is the title of the new E.P. by Abraham. As I was in this band and still consult with the group I was was asked to work on some ideas for cover art. This is basically a sketch. It was a sketch on paper and the colors from Photoshop have been applied really loose and sketchy. Basically I just wanted to display the idea. Here's a scan of the two original sketches. One of the wolf and another of the sheep. Also just for good measure here's an alternate sketch of the wolf.
I'm sure you'll see more drawings like this in the near future.

STORAGE

Hey this storage facility has private rooms. Can anyone think of a situation where they went to get a storage unit and they said "your gonna have to share a room"?

So I got the new camera that picks up peoples brain frequencies while on drugs.............................
No just kidding it's just Photoshop, and no drugs were involved in creating this image.
This is James. He and I like to make funny pictures of each other in Photoshop. I really like the way this one looks. As for the inspiration to make James look like a total acid freak, I don't know. Here's the original photo (Which I did not take myself.)I don't know what it is about this photo, but it makes me think he's hallucinating that gorilla. So I went to town opening James's 3rd eye. Gotta say I'm pretty happy with the outcome.

Bear Sketch

As you may or may not know I love to draw bears. A lot of the time when I can't think of anything else to draw I just default to a bear. That's what I did here. The actual sketch took me about 5 minutes. The coloring took a little longer, but not much. As you can tell I didn't try to clean up my lines or anything. I just wanted this one to be real loose and sketchy. So here's another drawing I did of a bear.

It's good to actually post a drawing on here for once.

Banner Ads

Last week I ended up doing a Flash job at work. They needed some web banners and I am the only person at Semerad who knows how to use flash. I had to create 2 different banners in 3 sizes, 768x90, 300x250, & 160x600. They turned out pretty good and the clients are happy. You can view them all here. I can't upload the actual SWF file to the blog so these are MOV files. This means when it instructs you to "click here" nothing will happen if you click. If your curious to see the website that these send you to the address is http://www.arizonaeconomiccouncil.com. This is the first actually creative project I've done for my job. Hopefully this opens the doors for more projects, whether they be Flash, After Effects, or even editing in Final Cut I'm ready for the challenge.

Box 300x250

This project has got me into doing Flash work again. I have a website I built last summer and haven't touched since that I'm thinking about working on again. I'll keep you all posted if anything comes of it. Oh yeah I also have to thank Shaun Moore for his phone support on this one.

This is a movie we made about 2 years ago. I've just got around to editing it. It's the story of two assassins and thier impossible foe. The whole thing is pretty much improv, even the story. I had a begining and ending and wanted there to be a montage type thing. We filled in the rest as we filmed. I think it turned out pretty good. It's hillarious at least. Watch & enjoy.
